Instructional Assistant

POSITION TITLE: Instructional Assistant CALENDAR: School/Teacher

REPORTS TO: School Director FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt

JOB GOAL: To provide the students under his/her direct supervision a quality educational program, which is appropriate for the assigned students, that meets their ability and appropriate for the subject and growth, and personal characteristics.

MINIMUM
Qualifications:

Two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester or 72 quarter hours), an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education, or passing the Praxis II test for Paraprofessionals
Obtain and maintain Educational Aide permit though Ohio Department of Education
Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation
Meet all health requirements as mandated by law
Demonstrate evidence of strong organizational and communication skills
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of student records and school business

PERFORMANCE
Responsibilities:

The Instructional Assistant works as a teacher's aide, assisting with lesson delivery, managing materials, supporting behavior management, and tutoring individuals or groups of children.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Teach social skills/social thinking and model appropriate behaviors for students such as: patience, persistence, and self-control
Supervise students during transition time, lunch recess, bus duty, dismissal, assemblies, field trips, speakers
Maintain observation records as directed by teachers/administration
Provide accurate and timely information as requested by teacher/administration
Report dangerous behaviors/environments to school director or administration immediately
Report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect through proper channels
Provides instructor with input regarding student behavior, academic performance and IEP progress
Communicate student concerns with teacher/staff as needed
Proctor during student assessment
Participate in appropriate staff development activities to provide for professional growth
Must be available to participate in after-school functions such as open houses, conferences or meetings
Participate in Summer Camp Program, which may require day, evening and/or overnight participation. Summit Academy students may be participating in a day camp or residential camp program. This program needs to be staffed with Summit Academy employees.
Assist teacher/school director in maintaining a clean and safe school environment
Perform any other task or activity as directed by administration

Assist teacher in the implementation of instructional activities

Track Student Behavior

C. Professional Attitude and Relationships
In the areas of professional relationships, an Instructional Aide shall:
have the ability to interact in a professional manner with Summit Academy staff
have the ability to effectively work with colleagues in a professional manner
demonstrate evidence of a positive attitude towards:
Colleagues, students, parents/guardians, special service personnel, support staff, administrators, and visitors/public

D. Personal Characteristics
In the area of personal characteristics, an Instructional Aide shall:
Maintain professional behavior
Dress professionally
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
